All mercedes models set to be available as electric by 2025

Daimler AG says it is to invest over 40 billion euros into battery electric vehicles between 2022 and 2030.

Mercedes electric

The luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz is stepping up its transition to electric cars which would mean that all new car sales will be electric by 2030 and the company have also said, that its customers will have the option of purchasing an ‘all-electric alternative’ for every model made by Mercedes by 2025.

Mercedes also plans to open nine gigafactories, while working with international partners to make the cells they need to make their vehicles. This is on top of the plans for the launch of nine plants to develop battery systems for their vehicles.

Their strategy of investment in electric follows proposals from the EU’s executive commission to tighten limits on carbon dioxide emissions, the primary greenhouse gas blamed by scientists for global warming.

Understanding Electric

R

Conventional Hybrid (HEV)

Hybrid Electric Vehicles or HEVs have both a battery and a petrol/diesel engine. You  can’t plug these cars in and you will be using the petrol/diesel engine for the majority of the time.

R

Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)

Plug-in Hybrid or PHEV’s also needs to be plugged in to charge its medium-sized battery. However, PHEVs have a traditional petrol or diesel engine as well.

R

100% Electric (BEV)

Battery Electric Vehicles or BEVs, are powered just by a large battery and an electric motor. Meaning zero CO2 emissions!
